Films You Can Dig: "Scientific" Cinema on the Rocks

Disaster movies. They evoke love/hate responses from many who watch them, relying on action rather than science to move the story along. If you want to explore the science behind the action, then this class is for you. We’ll watch a series of movies, most with geological themes, over the course of the semester. More recent films like The Core and The Day After Tomorrow plus classics like Them! and Earthquake will be examined.

how-dee-do there, neighborinos?

Welcome to "Films You Can Dig"! We're really excited about the class, and we were pleased with everybody's applications. We got some funny answers and heard about some awesome movies.

Here are some links that you should utilize:
Internet Movie Database (this site rocks. just about anything you need to know about a movie is there.)
Wikipedia (wiki-wiki-pedia is doing a great job recently on making sure their information is reliable and accurate.)
Presto (we're sure you've seen quite enough of this page recently. too bad.)
Google (use this link or the one on your browser. whatever.)

We hope to have the first posting of articles up by the weekend, so that while you're procrastinating doing other work, you have something fun to look at. The first movie we're watching is Volcano. Yes, that's the one with Tommy Lee Jones and the volcano in downtown LA. It's sweet.

Thanks again for your interest in the class. Hopefully we'll see most of you next week!
